“How a 14-Minute Video on Posture Changed My Life”
When anxiety hammers in, I reach and grab my phone. I swipe up my fingers on the screen and jab six numbers. The screen unlocks, and I always know where to go. Two right swipes. Third row fourth folder. Sixth app.
There it awaits me: Brawl Stars.
I quickly tap into the app, and my heart pounds as I choose Shelly. I load into a game, and adrenaline rushes through my veins for every shot that Shelly takes. That crisp sound of gunshot echoes deep in my ears, heightening my focus and attention. I shoot the opponents who appear in my sight and I notice their healthpoint bars dwindle as they flash in pain. When their health reaches 0, the character explodes. A sense of victory overwhelms me, and all my anxieties of homework and exams wash away.
Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time.
It is a natural response to the uncertainties of the world, and thus, it is important that we find our ways to relieve ourselves of our own anxieties.
But what I least expected was an ASMR video to be used for relieving anxiety.
Not once did I imagine that the calm and soothing sounds of ASMR could provide the refreshment that I found from beating my opponents in Brawl Stars.
But perhaps like the rapid gunfires of Shelly, maybe my judgment on ASMR videos was too quick and hasty.
Everyone is different, and everyone can be different.
What’s important is that we reach that “tranquility” that helps us through the day.
